Dualism: the root for Materialism since the 19th century

Can we overcome Dualism: the source for Materialism of the 19th and 20th centuries?

Dr. Robert Gorter wants his students to pay attention to the fact that it cannot be denied that natural science owes its great successes to the fact that it has limited itself to the exploration of every aspect of the sense world and does not, in any way, draw any conclusions from the sense world to the super-sensible world.

Since Francis Bacon and Rene Descartes, current consciousness suffers under the “Dualistic World Conception.” It became the leading “dogma” to separate the world into two distinctly separate areas: what is “objective” and what is “subjective.” The dogma of Bacon and Descartes and their followers is that science should always focus on what is ponderable, or measurable (world of quantities) and leave aside what was subjective, or imponderable (world of qualities).

In Dualism, there can never be built a bridge between these two polarities of “objective” and “subjective.” Thus, it is safer for the scientist to ignore anything that cannot be measured and then expressed in numbers.

In this chapter, Dr. Gorter attempts to expose the fundamental attitude of our times: “is this scientific?” and “has this been proven?” and “if it is statistically significant it must be true!”

Dr. Robert Gorter: “During the concile of Nicea, it was decided and became a dogma, that Man was no longer three-fold (spirit, soul and living body) but two-fold (soul and living body: the soul having some eternal qualities). By doing so, the awareness of reincarnation, namely that the spirit of man incarnates numerous times on earth, had to be abolished. As Kali Yuga (the “Götterdämmerung”, or the Twighlights of the Gods) had to be completed to finish the absolute isolation from the spiritual world and materialism could flourish. One can never be a complete materialist when reincarnation is still a reality.
