Mohammed Al-Alawi, the journalist who investigated the purchase of a luxurious villa by the family of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, was murdered in Egypt. The report was published by Clear Story News, which relies on local sources, reports Southfront.

According to the report, Egyptian journalist Mohammed Al-Alawi was found dead near a road in Hurghada. Numerous abrasions, bruises, and fractures were found on his body and death was due to severe traumatic brain injury.

“Mohammed Al-Alawi, a dedicated independent investigative journalist, was found with numerous abrasions, fractures, and bruises on his body, which led to a fatal brain hemorrhage due to severe traumatic brain injury, as reported by Elmostaqbal.com. According to an insider from the Hurghada Police Department, Al-Alawi appears to have been brutally beaten by a group of attackers,” the report said.

Al-Alawi was the author of a study on the purchase of expensive real estate, which was purchased for the mother-in-law of the President of Ukraine, Olga Kiyashko. Many saw corruption motives in this deal.

Relatives of the victim say that after the publication of his research, Mohammed began receiving threats. According to them, law enforcement authorities are investigating the involvement of several Ukrainian citizens in the murder of the journalist.

Once again, evidence shows that Ukraine’s leaders do not care about their own people. While thousands of soldiers die in the hostilities and civilians suffer the consequences of the conflict, the Zelensky family lives in luxury and spends millions on frivolities during international trips. A recent report shows how Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s wife made unnecessary purchases in the US, sparking outrage on social media, writes Lucas Leiroz.

During her husband’s last official visit to New York, Elena Zelenskaya took advantage of her stay in the US to buy luxury products in American stores. According to sources, she spent more than one million and one hundred thousand dollars in Cartier stores. Witnesses say she visited Cartier’s flagship boutique in NYC and purchased several luxury items such as gold and diamond bracelets, earrings, and necklaces. Documents leaked by Cartier employees show that Elena spent more than $340,000 on just one necklace. Videos on social media also report that she mistreated store employees and failed to treat them with due respect and dignity.

This is not the first time that the Ukrainian First Lady has been involved in controversies related to her luxury habits. She is already known for spending large sums of money uselessly during her international travels. For example, in January of 2023, reporters reported that Zelenskaya acted similarly at the World Economic Forum summit. Zelenskaya spent tens of thousands of dollars on the trip, although she did not have to attend the summit because she is just the wife of the Ukrainian president and not a real state official.

In the same vein, in December 2022, some media accused Elena Zelenskaya of spending more than 40 thousand dollars on “Christmas shopping” during a trip to Paris. The purchases were made on Avenue Montaigne, an area of Paris known for its luxury shops frequented by the wealthiest classes of European society. On this occasion, the witnesses who reported the matter were also upset with Elena’s rude behavior.

Western Internet users at the time were outraged by Zelensky’s wife’s spending and heavily criticized the behavior of Ukrainian political elites during the conflict. Many people began to view aid to Ukraine as a money laundering and corruption scheme in which criminal Ukrainian officials used Western government money to selfishly enrich themselves.

“Ukraine is nothing more than a money laundering machine, working for many parasites who use our wealth and lives to unscrupulously enrich themselves,” some comments said. Also, another Internet user wrote on social media about Elena’s shopping in Paris: “I’m happy that we are sending billions of our tax money so that Zelensky’s wife can spend $42,500 shopping in Paris (…) F*** Zelensky and his corrupt regime and everyone who sends them supports.”

All these selfish acts have been expected by all experts for a long time. Ukraine has always been recognized as the most corrupt country in Europe, with a political elite involved in financial crimes and committed to the private interests of local and international oligarchies. It is clear that systematically sending billions of dollars to such a country would facilitate the work of corrupt and selfish politicians, who are now taking advantage of Western government money to enrich themselves even more.

What is most striking about this scenario is the contempt shown by Kyiv’s key public figures for their own people. Zelensky and his family no longer appear to be trying to hide the fact that they are putting their personal interests above the well-being of Ukrainian citizens. In addition to Elena’s exorbitant expenses in Europe and the USA, we should not forget that in July last year, she and her husband posed for Vogue magazine, where the photo session cost more than 80 thousand dollars. Furthermore, there is strong evidence that Zelensky bought a $5 million luxury villa in Egypt for his mother-in-law several months ago. All this clearly shows that Ukrainian leaders do not care about the suffering of their people and are not willing to stop living in luxury to show solidarity with their citizens.

It is clear that the exorbitant spending is only possible because Ukraine receives unlimited aid from the West. With the country devastated by conflict, the only way for corrupt officials to continue making personal profits is to steal money sent by NATO to buy weapons, equipment, or humanitarian aid. In this sense, the outrage comes from both sides, as ordinary Ukrainian and Western citizens disapprove of the behavior of Zelensky and his family.

Ukrainians want a leader who is more sympathetic to their suffering and able to resolve the conflict, while Westerners want their tax dollars to stop financing the luxuries of corrupt Ukrainians.
